Who can obtain this discount card “carte famille nombreuse”?
Starting from June 26, 2006 all families (French citizens or nationals of the European Union or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) living or working in France , or foreigners living legally in France), with at least 3 children of less than 18 years.
Every member of the family, father, mother and each of the children, is holder of a card which is personal to him/her.
To obtain this discount card, you need to fill in a request form which is available from French railway station ticket offices, town halls, or the local CAF or MSA office. However, there is an initial application fee of 18 €.
The card needs to be renewed every three years (five years for families of five children or more).
Benefits of this card: price reductions or free supplementary services in numerous companies (22 companies are at the moment partner of the card, e.g. local services, supermarkets, museums, cinemas, retail shops).
Examples:
- SNCF offers 75 % for every member of a family of 6 children or more, 50 % for a family of 5 children, 30 % for a family of 3 or 4 children (but not for the TGV).
- AUCHAN offers for the birth of the 3-rd child a 10% discount on purchases made in the nursery department.
- C&A gives 5 € on all the collections.
The holder of an old but still valid discount card from the French railway company SNCF, benefits also from these advantages.
