On-line transactions

More secure electronic means of payment

The European Commission settled for objective to replace as much as possible the traditional means of payment by more secure and also cheaper electronic means.

However, as underlines it the report published on April 28th 2008, efforts still need to be made in this area as bank card transactions are not optimally secured yet.

Some domains quoted by this report are particularly permeable to frauds. This is the case for the on-line transactions paid via bank card (the use of on-line banking, but also the on-line purchase of plane tickets would be particularly risky) or in the restoration.

Nevertheless the solutions allowing improving the situation exist and only ask to be applied. It is for example recommended to develop the use of secret codes or of the cryptogram in 3 figures situated in the zone of signature in order to strengthen consumer confidence in these payment methods. At the moment only one European out of five makes use of online transactions.

The road will be long, especially if you know that 72% of the ATMs in the EU are equipped with cheap reader tools.
