VAT cuts

During March, the European financial ministers have come to a compromise on a reduction of the VAT for certain branches within Europe; for example the catering trade. The agreement is aimed at allowing the different countries to choose themselves to cut their VAT up to an EU- wide minimum of 15% from January 2010 onwards.

In France, since March 2009, the VAT for restaurant meals has been cut to 5,5%.
